It’s very pleased that we invited manager Yu-Hsiang Hsu and local manager Chang-Han Yang from SUNCUE to share about the managing strategies of the rice factory and their working experience in SUNCUE.

In the aspect of the rice production chain, manager Hsu depicted the challenges that traditional agriculture may confront. Among all, weather is one of the dominating factors. In Taiwan, the humid weather makes it hard to dry the crops just harvested. Thus the grain dryers are crucial in agriculture to prevent the crops from deterioration. But typically the grain dryers are driven by diesel fuels and LPG, which both produce lots of pollutants and are harmful to the environment. Besides, they are also costy. To solve this problem, SUNCUE developed the dryers using bran, the outer layer of paddy, to drive. It not only saves energy, but also successfully reuses the waste materials. What’s more, the ash of the burned bran becomes fertilizers. This meets the concept of the cycling economy, and lowers carbon emissions. This product has received plenty of positive feedback from clients all over the world. Manager Hsu also shared their experience entering the Japanese and Korean markets. The former because of being highly demanding on the most high-quality products and services, and the latter because its focus on self-consumption, policies that exclude most of the foreign competition.

Local manager, Yang, is an alumni of our department. He received his bachelor and master degree in BME and graduated in 2017. He mentioned three key elements that we should take consideration of when choosing our jobs, including interests, strengths, and specialties. He’s glad that he can apply what he learned in BME and integrate the knowledge from different domains in his career. Also, his mother tongue is Indonesian, which makes him stand up from the crowds when talking about supporting clients in Indonesia. His experience is very inspiring to us.
