It is a great honor for us to invite Dr. Xiao in Taiwan Instrument Research Institute, NARLabs. With a topic of "Internet of Things Integrated Smart Manufacturing Applications", Dr. Xiao introduces how micro-sensors and Internet of Things are applied in the manufacturing industry. First, in smart factories, different photo-, electric-, thermal or magnetic sensors are used to evaluate the production efficiency and capacity of the equipment, such as monitoring the temperature, vibration, offset of the machine tool during operation, and then estimating the cutting state, thermal deformation, and spindle runout of the machine to ensure machining quality. Secondly, the change of the spatial distribution of the dust in the carbon fiber manufacturing process can also be established through the dust sensor, which can optimize the processing parameters and reduce the dust amount to protect the safety of personnel. Therefore, smart manufacturing is to increase production efficiency and improve quality by deploying IoT micro-sensors, while protecting the health and safety of production personnel.
