Industrial Engineering National Taiwan University

The Institute of Industrial Engineering at National Taiwan University announced that Cheng-Hung Wu has been promoted to the rank of professor, effective August 1, 2021.

Professor Cheng-Hung Wu has been on the faculty of the Institute of Industrial Engineering at National Taiwan University since 2007. Professor Wu received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering/M.S. in Industrial Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1998/2000, and his Ph.D. in Industrial and Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor in 2006.

Wu's research interests include decisions under uncertainties, information and decision support systems, theoretical work in Markov decision processes, stochastic programming, and data science. His career goal is to develop theories and start-of-the-art methods to extract knowledge from data and use that knowledge for robust manufacturing and business decisions. He has published 32 refereed papers in the research fields of: Stochastic optimization methods for robust manufacturing and business decisions and Statistics and machine learning methods for knowledge extraction.

Wu’s consistent track record have led to 21 industry-funded projects over the last five years. Through industry collaboration, the solutions and research results to which he contributed have been successfully adopted in industrial applications through research projects funded by world-renowned companies:

Given recent development in sensor and communication technologies, abundant data can now be collected in all service and manufacturing systems; however, using those data effectively to enhance manufacturing and business decisions remains challenging. The combination of knowledge extraction and stochastic optimization will therefore be crucial for the success of any company in future business/manufacturing environments enabled by sensors and networks.
