The earliest statistics course offered at National Taiwan University can be traced back to the period of Japanese rule. As academics became more sophisticated, many faculties established their own statistics courses, programs, and even research centers. When this dilution of resources and manpower due to the lack of integration eventually made it impossible to train enough advanced statistics talents to meet the growing needs of industry and academics, the University formally established an inter-collegiate unit – the Statistics Education Center. Based on the courses developed at this Center, with the combination of manpower spread among various departmental faculties, the Master Program was formally established in the 2014 academic year. The Master Program emphasizes interdisciplinary cooperation and connection with industry and is composed of 3 sub-divisions, each having its own concentration in connection with a specific industry and academic area. It is expected that students trained in the Master Program will not only gain a solid foundation in statistical theory but also accumulate abundant practical experience in data analysis and presentation, leaving them well-prepared upon graduation to pursue a PhD in Statistics or a career as a statistician.
