1. 以耳石δ¹³C與δ¹⁸O分析解析深海魚類生活史。
    科學界目前對於深海底棲性魚類的生活史了解非常地不足，主要是受限於採樣與直接觀察深海魚類的困難度很高，我們藉由耳石δ¹⁸O微量分析技術，利用微量採樣器(micromill)與同位素比值質譜儀(IRMS, Finnigan MAT 253)進行分析，藉此重建魚類所經歷的溫度，進一步推測深度變化，結果發現深海魚類(鼠尾鱈)確實具有【個體發育垂直洄游行為】，不同種類的垂直洄游距離不盡相同，有些種類的仔魚在下沉過程中已經完成變態成為稚魚，有些種類的仔魚則是在沉降到深海海床上時才完成變態，這種仔稚魚階段的【個體發育垂直下沉行為】是連結底棲性成魚階段與浮游性仔魚階段非常重要的策略，此研究方法能夠重建深海魚類全生活史的定居或是垂直洄游的行為。

2. 快速種類篩驗檢測技術之研究
        漁業管理與保育經常面對缺乏外外形態特徵的情形，因此必須仰賴分子生物學的技術進行種類鑑定，本研究室發展出分子技術用於快速鑑定鮪魚，旗魚與鯊魚等種類，這種技術包括對於鮪魚魚種有專一性的探針以及引子，並以此來放大粒線體的基因片段。此方法可用於煮熟的鮪魚罐頭，新鮮樣本，或是經酒精保存過的樣本上，整個鑑定過程可於半天內完成，比起傳統DNA定序方法，能節省數天時間。

3. 洄游魚類生活史之研究
        洄游性魚類利用多樣的棲地環境，且許多為經濟性魚種，例如黑鮪魚，我們領先世界同行，首先提出藉由微量且高精準的耳石穩定性氧同位素分析，重建黑鮪從出生到第一個冬天所經歷的溫度變化，以及冬天訊號距離耳石核心的位置，便可以準確地判別每一尾太平洋黑鮪的孵化場，此分析方法有助於評估黑鮪的兩個產卵場對該族群位於各個(國家)漁場的貢獻度，採研究成果至今還沒有其他的方法可以取代。
