丘臺生老師致力於仔稚魚鑑定與吻仔魚的監測，著有《台灣的仔稚魚》。銀灰半稜鯷與日本鯷為吻仔魚中常見的經濟魚類仔稚魚。
Professor T.S. Chiu focuses on the species identification of larva fishes and the monitoring of whitebaiting. He authored the book “Larva Fishes of Taiwan”. Encrasicholina punctifer and Scomber japonicus are fish species of economic importance, and their larvae are usually caught in the whitebaiting net.
