A New Experience of Life Science: the Appearances and Sounds of Animals
Since 2007, we have launched a special exhibition “A New Experience of Life Science” at the exhibition room on the 1st floor of Life Science Building. The exhibited specimens include baleen whale, toothed whale, Asian elephant, and some bird specimens. Integrated under the theme of “sounds”, these specimens reveal various aspects of their ecological features and animal instincts。
As the Chinese saying goes, “sounds of the same kind echo to each other, while smells of the same kind mingle together” (同聲相應,同氣相求). We have spent our entire life searching for our partners, pursuing people with the same frequency, which is also true to animals. Elephants grow up in the jungles, whales swim leisurely in the sea, and birds fly in the sky. These specimens have different appearances and make different sounds: some are high-pitched while some are deep and low. But what are sounds made of ? Why do animals make different sounds? This exhibition will bring you a new experience of Life Science.
